In 2001 Birmingham’s acclaimed vocal quintet Black Voices made a new home in the historic Grosvenor Road recording studios. 25 years on, they’re opening the doors for a very special evening of music, film and food in their community garden.
As we wait for the sun to go down, Black Voices will give a short a cappella performance from their repertoire of soul and gospel standards.
Then around 9pm our main feature is Amazing Grace (dir: Alan Elliott, Sydney Pollack). Finally released in 2018 after decades in limbo, this spellbinding concert movie captures Aretha Franklin at the very height of her powers in 1972, performing alongside the Southern California Community Choir at the New Temple Baptist church in LA.
Refreshments will be available on the night, and there will be a short tour of the studio at 7:30pm.
