Topping polls throughout the years as one of the most romantic films ever made, David Lean directs this sparkling adaptation of Noel Coward's play, set in wartime Britain.

Bored suburban housewife Laura Jesson (Celia Johnson) is thrown by happenstance into an acquaintance with virtuous doctor Alec Harvey (Trevor Howard). Their casual friendship soon develops during their weekly visits into something more which threatens to upturn both of their lives.
