We love to mess around with all the ways you can show and watch films at Flatpack. Enter Jan Kulka’s Archeoscope.
The ‘Archescope’ itself is a kind of projection machine, constructed in order to reimagine what it is to exhibit and experience film. Its name comes from the Greek arché (origin or underlying substance) and skopeo (to observe, consider). So, in a nutshell, its name means ‘thinking about the essence of’ - the essence of film in this case.
The machine can project all standard film formats (8, 16, 35mm etc.) as well as other materials like fabrics or bubble wrap, and can project four different areas of a film strip at the same time. No two projections are the same either, so what you see at Flatpack will be a genuinely unique experience.
Whether you’re a seasoned projectionist or a casual film fan with a curious mind, this might just change the way you think about cinema forever.
