“I'm on a quest to find magic in the simplest mechanisms I find in film, print and folding paper to bring a smile - especially in current uncertain times.”

There’s an optimism in Natalia Kozieł-Kalliomäki’s live cinema performance Warm Data. It’s a celebration of a bustling and vibrant Toronto (could one argue there are similarities to Birmingham; major urban centres with diverse cultures, and significant populations).

This city symphony combines 16mm footage via two projectors with colourful kaleidoscopic silhouettes performed almost as a puppet show using an oldskool overhead projector. It buzzes with energy and an unfiltered sense of wonder.

With a sonic tapestry of warbled acoustic instruments and looped electronics, the soundtrack by Finnish musician KuuPuu (Jonna Karanka) perfectly complements the visuals.

If Toronto wasn’t already on your list of places to visit, it will be after this.
