“Do good storytellers have a better chance of gaining asylum?”

Lisa Gerig’s confronting film immerses itself in the immigration process by pointing the interview questions back at those with the power to grant asylum. Four people whose applications were rejected by Swiss authorities not only re-enact their interviews but turn the tables on their interrogators to explore their reasoning behind their questioning and decision making.

Nominated for the Swiss Film Prize for Best Documentary, Gerig takes a deep dive into power dynamics, exploring how the balance between facts and opinions can have unfathomable consequences on the lives of vulnerable people. The Hearing is important, powerful and thought-provoking filmmaking.
