Telford Film Festival
In 2018 Flatpack teamed up with Telford & Wrekin Council to celebrate the town’s 50th anniversary with the first edition of Telford Film Festival. A mix of new releases, classics, shorts, workshops and more the festival is part of Film Hub Midlands’ mission to develop film culture across the region.
Over two and a half thousand Shropshire dwellers came out for a whole host of film events dotted across the region from Murder on the Orient Express at Telford Steam Railway and The Greatest Showman in a big top to zombies roaming the deserted corridors of Telford shopping centre for Dawn of the Dead! We transformed churches into cinemas, hosted quizzes and workshops and even dressed up as nuns for a special screening of The Sound of Music.
It was such a success that we did it all over again in 2019! Working with established partners from 2018, and welcoming some new ones, we hosted events in Oakengates, Dawley, Coalbrookdale, Cosford, Ketley and Wellington. Three thousand people attended festival events including an open-air screening of 80s adrenaline-fuelled action flick Top Gun at Royal Air Force Museum Cosford, The Miners’ Hymns with a live performance from Wellington Brass Band and a reunion for the cast of 80s Channel 4 doc Giro: Is This the Modern World?
Planning is currently underway for the next edition of Telford Film Festival.
