Festival Volunteers: We Want You!

Monday 30th January, 2017

Applications for flatpack 11 volunteers have now closed.

Film Festival seeks enthusiastic volunteers for week-long cinematic fling...

Flatpack is “surreal, strange and brilliantly odd” according to one audience member, having a reputation for providing an eclectic mix of events that push the boundaries of what it means to be a film festival. In our 11th year, we have programmed a variety of events over 6 days - and we need volunteers to help make it happen!

Each year volunteers are an integral part of the Flatpack team. In the past we’ve had superb people involved who made the most of volunteering with us, gaining experience in all aspects of running a festival. You will also have the chance to meet and work with some great and interesting people.

This year, Flatpack will take place in venues across Birmingham from 4th - 9th April. We are more than happy to help find hostels or hotels for those travelling to Birmingham.

Criteria:

  • We’re after proactive, dedicated, outgoing individuals.
  • We want people who are passionate about film, art, and/or music and who want to have a direct and positive impact on Flatpack Film Festival.
  • We would like each volunteer to commit to a minimum of three shifts during the festival period.
  • Each volunteer must be available to attend the Volunteer Meeting on the evening of 28th March.
  • Volunteers must be over 18 years old.

EVENTS TEAM Our main Events Team work across all our venues to help deliver the festival programme to the public. Duties will vary depending on the venues, but typically include setting up, stewarding, helping to run the Flatpack box office, and helping out on our pop up cafe-bars. You’ll be at the heart of the action and the face of the festival!

This year we have 3 additional volunteering opportunities available:

COLOUR BOX TEAM We are looking for volunteers to focus on helping run our family programme Colour Box, a well-loved Flatpack staple. We deliver a range of screenings, workshops and interactive experiences tailored towards children and will need help setting up venues and workshops, ushering, and assisting workshop leaders to deliver these events. You will also help facilitate workshops designed to be inclusive and welcoming to all, including families. Colour Box presents a fun and hands-on experience that is a perfect opportunity for those who enjoy assisting on practical workshops and working with children.

VOLUNTEER TEAM LEADER As a team leader, you’ll be a friendly face helping to make sure our volunteers are having as good a time as our audience! You would be working more closely with the Volunteer Coordinator to help ensure things are running smoothly with the volunteer team across the board. This will mean visiting multiple venues, talking to volunteers and Venue Coordinators, and passing on any issues to Flatpack staff. You will need to be available for a separate one-to-one meeting with the Volunteer Coordinator before the general volunteer induction (this can be arranged individually). If you’re looking for a role with more responsibility, with a focus on social interaction and welfare, then this is ideal.

MARKETING TEAM - applications for this role have now closed.
