Flatpicks 2018: Abbe Elliston

Tuesday 10th April, 2018

Amidst the pre-fest mania, our Ops Manager Abbe comes up for air and shows us what she'll be watching at Flatpack 12...

One Hour Short Film

A gluttonous consumer of documentaries, I’ve often thought I’d like to be a part of one but wondered how I might go about this with no discernible skills in this area. Then I heard that one of our favourite Scottish guests was coming back to Flatpack with the aim of making a documentary with help from the audience and I knew I had the first of my Flatpicks sorted. Duncan Cowles will attempt the impressive feat of filming and editing a documentary in one hour, the results of which will then be screened for the participating crowd. It may work. It may not. It will however most definitely be fun and I can’t wait.

See you at Dig Brew Co. at 7pm on Friday 20th April yeah?

Tickets are availablehere.

Little Wonders

Little Wonders from 7inch cinema on Vimeo.

A certain greedy someone at Flatpack (Sam Groves) selected the whole of the Shorts Programme as one of his Flatpicks, but I’m going to shine a light on my favourite of the programmes here in a rare display of restraint. Little Wonders could describe all short films showing at Flatpack, but here it represents a selection of 8 animated, bitesize delights that will have you marvelling at the skill of the filmmakers whilst relating to a singing fish and contemplating the love life of a fox. It will make you laugh and it might (definitely if you’re anything like me) bring a tear to your eye. I would say this is one not to be missed.

You can catch it on Friday 20th April at 6pm at the Mockingbird.

Tickets are available here.

Leafcutter John: Playing With Light

Optical Sound is the strand that guarantees something unusual for both the eyes and the ears, perfectly represented here by Leafcutter John. I’ve only seen the trailer for this performance and I was completely entranced. Have you ever thought about using your bike lights synced up to a contraption that generates sounds to create a mesmerising audio visual display? No, me neither, but Leafcutter John has and he’s going to be sharing it with us as part of our Optical Sound programme on Saturday 21st April at 7.30pm in our wonderful hub Centrala. I’m not sure why you wouldn’t want to see this.

Tickets are available here.
