The Dark River
Last Friday we unveiled new video installation The Dark River at mac birmingham, commissioned for the festival from locally based artist and photographer David Rowan.
He has spent nearly 2 years exploring Birmingham's River Rea in industrial-strength waders with a camera, from its source down to Spaghetti Junction where it converges with the Tame. His series of short videos give the viewer access to a secret, slippery world, and see it negotiated by car-drivers, waterfowl and footballing kids.
The Dark River runs until Sunday 27 April alongside Walk On, an exhibition examining the ways artists have used a seemingly universal act – taking a walk – as their means to create new types of art. The exhibition features works by Richard Long, Marina Abramovic, Hamish Fulton and Richard Wentworth.
