Carnivorous Syndrome in 3-D

Saturday 3rd February, 2007

St Martins in the Bull Ring | 10:00

Portland-based artist Mike Wilder has brought together his fascination with carnivorous plants and his passion for Lego to create this unique project, a 20-minute piece which pays homage to old-school educational movies with a mixture of documentary, computer graphics and lo-fi ingenuity. Narrated by Marguerite C. Wilson, the film features dazzling time-lapse footage of a range of weird and wonderful plants captured with an ordinary digital stills camera which Wilder mounted on a Lego rig named ‘Jasper’. The Carnivorous Syndrome is best viewed with a pair of 3-D glasses, and can be seen at the back of St Martin’s Church throughout the day on Friday 2 and Saturday 3 February.

Accompanied by The Collector, a 5-minute film about pioneering butterfly-collecter Henry Bates by artist and animator Annette Bowery.
