Cinema Treasure Hunt

Saturday 17th September, 2022

Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery | 10:30 - 13:00 or 14:00 - 16:30

Get ready to flex your detective skills with a hands-on treasure hunt exploring the cinemas and lost picturehouses of Birmingham.

If you've been to the Wonderland exhibition at Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery, you'll know that there have been loads of cinemas in Birmingham - over 100 at one point. In fact, if you’ve spent any time in the city centre you’ve probably walked past buildings that were once cinemas without even knowing it - hiding in plain as shisha lounges or shopping arcades.

Specially designed for Birmingham Heritage Week, this one-off event is a chance to find out more about a selection of our city centre picturehouses.

You can work solo, in groups or in pairs to explore hidden spaces and find clues that reveal untold stories and fascinating histories relating to Birmingham’s movie-going landscape.

You’ll receive your very own treasure map at the start of your journey so you can plan out your route. There are rewards for finishing the trail, but don’t dawdle - a special prize goes to the treasure hunters who finish it first!

The adventure begins at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery. Come and see us by the Wonderland exhibition (near the tea room) to collect your treasure map.

Event times: 10:30 - 13:00 and 14:00 - 16:30. Please select your chosen event time when purchasing your ticket.

This event is for ages 12 and up. Max team size 5 people.

Price includes your treasure hunt map.

We regret that some of the older spaces visited on this trail are only accessible by steps.
