Birmingham braces itself for six days of screenings and live events.

23-28 March 2010

 

Six days of cinematic wonders in venues across Birmingham. For the full low-down you should go to www.flatpackfestival.org - highlights include:

 

- Dublin collective Synth Eastwood taking over the Rainbow Warehouse with a night of music, animation and who knows what else;

- French artist Julien Maire presenting his own unique take on the magic lantern show, and making text appear from nowhere in Central Library;

- A tribute to our patron saint Oscar Deutsch, including an Odeon bus tour, classic matinees and a voyage through 30s Birmingham's literary scene;

- Animation galore, from puppet films to anime;

- Ghost Box records present a night of haunted audio and creepy 70s telly;

- Amazing 1927 movie Sunrise, accompanied live by a jazz trio in St Martins Church;

- Music documentaries on black metal, the Iranian underground, two-tone and Birmingham legend Stephen Duffy;

- Kids matinees and workshops including the Oscar-nominated Secret of Kells;

- New movies from Werner Herzog, Harmony Korine and Andrew Bujalski, plus latenight horror and a revival of cult Michael Hutchence movie Dogs in Space.
