The Gatekeepers
A documentary like nothing else at this year's festival with insights into Israel's security agency from the people who used to run it.
The Gatekeepers is a documentary like nothing else at this year’s festival. So often the Middle East is a subject that is either neglected or stereotyped on the big screen, particularly in fiction where it is forced to play the backdrop in stories about American heroes of either soldierly or peacekeeping stock. Here, however, director Dror Moreh presents interviews with not just one but six former heads of Israel’s security agency, Shin Bet, alongside archive footage and animated reconstructions, providing provocative insights into their operations of the last century.
Dir: Dror Moreh, Israel 2012, 97 mins
