The documentary film Ampe: Leap into the Sky, Black Girl is a work of art that displays the ways in which Black girls and women have autonomy over their bodies in a joyful way. As well as demonstrating the importance of ritual and community for the healthy flourishing and growth of black girls and women across the world the film will have you smiling throughout.
This film will be screened alongside two UK shorts and a live demonstration of the game Ampe by women from Ghana Union Greater Birmingham. Audience participation is very welcome.
Philippa Walusimbi has worked alongside musicians and artists whilst programming at organisations such as B:Music, Shakespeare’s Birthplace Trust and Sheffield DocFest. Her main passion has always been cultural democracy, making sure that all feel welcome, heard and seen from entrance to stage.
