The Breadwinner

Sunday 22nd April, 2018

The Electric Cinema Screen 2 | 17:00 - 18:40

Parvana, a young Afghan girl whose father has been arrested by the Taliban, challenges the status quo by bravely venturing out into the world dressed as a boy so as to provide for her family.

Alongside this, in beautiful cutout animation, Parvana tells her young brother a story concerning a boy who takes on an evil Elephant King in order to save his village from starvation. Through the two of these stories, this Oscar nominated animated film demonstrates the way that imagination refracts reality and provides not only solace but also real-world strategy in the face of terror.
