WE ARE MAKING A FILM ABOUT MARK FISHER

Friday 15th May, 2026

The Edge | 18:30 - 22:00

A writer and cultural theorist who remained restless and questioning to the end, Mark Fisher’s ideas continue to permeate music, philosophy, activism and beyond. This appropriately fluid new film reflects on how his thinking might help us to navigate the choppy waters of 2026.

Please join Friction Arts, Voce Books and Flatpack as we break bread, converse and consider what a better world might look like. Aiding us in this task are three guests:

Sadie Plant – philosopher and writer. She worked with Fisher at Birmingham University in the mid-90s, and together they went to Warwick to help set up the much-mythologised Cybernetic Culture Research Unit.

Tariq Goddard – novelist and publisher. In 2009 he and Fisher founded Zer0 books in opposition to the ‘cretinous anti-intellectualism’ of contemporary culture. Five years later they set up Repeater Books.

Simon Poulter – artist and filmmaker. Working with regular collaborator Sophie Mellor he is making this film about Mark Fisher, and now you are making it too.

This event is part of a gentle launch weekend for Friction’s rejuvenated home The Edge. They will be serving food in exchange for donations. Voce will have a small book stall, and jungle will be played.
