WR - Mysteries of the Organism
If you were looking to mainline the spirit of the late 60s counter-culture you could do a lot worse than spend ninety minutes in the company of this bizarre, bracing melange of documentary, fiction and found-footage.
"Politics is for those whose orgasm is incomplete!" If you were looking to mainline the spirit of the late 60s counter-culture you could do a lot worse than spend ninety minutes in the company of this bizarre, bracing melange of documentary, fiction and found-footage. The non-fiction element (and the WR of the title) concerns psychoanlayst Wilhelm Reich, whose radical theories on sexual repression and orgone therapy saw his books burned by both the Nazis and the US authorities. Around this story Makavejev weaves a fascinating web of material that takes in Stalinist propaganda, Cynthia the Plastercaster and a surreal romance with an ice-skater. An emblematic film from the early programming of Birmingham Arts Lab.
