Film Pardna return to Flatpack with a new selection of films from their Birmingham-based filmmaking collective.
This short film programme demonstrates how decolonization can be practised through the reclamation of space: showing up, reconnecting with cultural traditions and telling stories on the screen, without waiting for permission.
Following a live Capoeira demonstration, Film Pardna will present short films that they’ve made as a crew, turning homes, streets, cemeteries and canals into a film set.
Alongside this will be a screening of African Oasis (1982), directed by Yugesh Walia and produced by Birmingham Film Workshop, about a cultural centre in Handsworth that became a hub for making, building and learning.
Closing the event will be a panel discussion with Film Pardna exploring the theme of reclaiming space and their approach to collective filmmaking.
