Annual Report 2022-23
September 2022 - August 2023 was a big year for us, marking the twentieth anniversary of our very first film night.
We talk about those humble beginnings often, but it bears repeating. What started off as a film and mixed media night in a local pub in Digbeth has grown up to include a celebrated international festival, year-round events bringing local communities together and a portfolio of heritage projects exploring the rich history of Birmingham.
In 2022-23 alone we delivered over 140 events, turning all sorts of different spaces into cinemas right across the Midlands. Our annual report outlines highlights and achivements from those 12 months, including:
- Commissioniong new work, bringing unique audiovisual performances to Birmingham and working with 80+ artists and filmmakers
- A threefold increase in the range of voices shaping our programming
- The growth of our co-created community neighbourhood programme, transforming more than 30 spaces (including parks, gardens, churches and pubs) into cinemas
- A monthly family programme of relaxed, interactive screenings and creative workshops
- Leading the development of film culture across the UK with our 'Spotlight' approach
