Screendance Unpacked

This November we're teaming up with DanceXchange and screendance aficionado Sima Gonsai to present three events exploring the art of dance on screen.

You can find more information about the three events by clicking on the hyperlinks below, but if you're scratching your head, wondering what screendance is, our friend and collaborator Sima summed it up in this article last year.

Screendance Shorts
(Wednesday 18 November, 7 - 8pm, Free)
Through a curated online film screening we present eight of the very best and most innovative screendance shorts from across the globe, all with unique approaches to the genre. (The films will remain online for 24 hours after the event)

Screendance Deconstructed
(Thursday 19 November, 7 - 8pm, Free)
The following evening Sima will engage in conversation with four filmmakers whose works screened the previous night (Hadi Moussally - Bellydance Vogue, Fabiola Santana & Will Dickie - Canning Town, and Tanin Torabi - The Derive), delving into how they made their films, and the barriers they overcame, offering both insight and inspiration.

Screendance Masterclass with Omari Carter
(Thursday 26 November, 12 - 1:30pm & 3 - 4:30pm, £15)
To top it all off, the following week we’re joined by Omari Carter, Founder and Director of the award winning screendance production company The Motion Dance Collective. Omari will lead a three hour workshop designed for choreographers and filmmakers who have an interest in screendance but little or no experience making it. The workshop will be split into two parts exploring pre-production & production and post-production & distribution.

These events form part of our ongoing series exploring dance on film, and if you're interested in submitting a screendance film to our 15th festival in 2021, you can find more details here.
