Snails, cats and toilet rolls!
Given that many kids are currently bouncing off the walls and hungry for creative brain-food, it felt particularly important to include a family-friendly element in Flatpack 2020.
Regular viewers will be familiar with our Colour Box programme, which includes monthly events at MAC, ingenious school activities like this St Bernadette's takeover and of course an annual jamboree as part of the festival in May. So what can you expect from Colour Box online?...
A SHORT HOP
2-10 May
A magical mix of animation for younger viewers, including colourful snail adventures and a fresh spin on the Baba Yaga stories.
IN FULL SWING
9-17 May
Aimed at our more mature Colour Boxers (ie, ages 7+), toe-tapping shorts here feature a concert for woodland creatures and a hummingbird with a thing for trumpets.
COLOUR BOX LIVE
Saturday 9 May, 10:30am
Gathering highlights from the two shorts programmes along with some old favourites and exclusive premieres, this is a chance to watch along with the Colour Box community. After the screening there will be a special activity you can take part in - this is where the toilet rolls (and kitchen rolls) will come in! Suitable for all ages.
Feline fans are also well served - Brummie play adventurers Babhaus have drafted in some young helpers to present an Internet Cat Film Festival (12-17 May). If you’re interested in helping them to select cat videos, check out their kid curator’s pack. Our year-round family events and schools activity are of course on hold for now, but we will continue to provide quarantine fun for younger audiences beyond the festival in May. Stay safe, and keep saving those toilet rolls!
