Birmingham on Film

As part of the BFI's Britain on Film season we mounted an eclectic city-wide season of screenings and events in autumn 2016. Packing a century's-worth of Birmingham-shot film and television into a couple of weeks, highlights included:

  • legendary actress Corinne Skinner-Carter reflecting on her role in multicultural drama Empire Road;
  • heartwarming wartime drama Millions Like Us, a stone's throw from the former Spitfire factory where it was filmed;
  • John Akomfrah's Handsworth Songs, showing on 16mm in Handsworth Library;
  • an insight into some of the more recent movie shoots which have taken place in the city, including Ready Player One.
