The product of several months of painstaking research around the Bullring centre, The Street and Modern Life is the latest in a series of projects by Dutch photographer Hans Eijkelboom, all united by an interest in globalisation and the fabric of everyday life. In Eijkelboom’s early work the photographer himself became subject, particularly in a series called In de Krant where he (successfully) set himself the challenge of appearing in the background of his local paper’s front cover image for ten consecutive days. Today he’ll be talking to Emma Chetcuti from Multistory about how his approach has evolved since then, and what drew him to Birmingham’s streets.
