The Ambiguity of David Thomas Broughton + Statement Too

Sunday 24th April, 2016

Birmingham and Midland Institute | 14:30

In this hour-long ode/doc, director Greg Butler attempts to demystify David Thomas Broughton, the man and his music.

If you’d only heard the alluring, angelic voice of David Thomas Broughton, you wouldn’t necessarily expect his live shows to feature rape alarms and bottle-throwing. But like his work he is enigmatic and divides opinion, and has been known to incite confrontation on more than one occasion. In this hour-long ode/doc, director Greg Butler attempts to demystify the man and his music, featuring interviews with fellow musicians and fans including Sam Amidon, David Shrigley and James Yorkston.

Preceding The Ambiguity is Statement Too, Joern Utkilen’s portrait of cult Norwegian musician Arvid Sletta (38 mins).
