Film for all the senses

Black Moon

Thursday 2nd May, 2019

The Electric Cinema Screen 2 | 15:45 - 17:30

By way of warm-up for her solo performance at the Glee Club this evening, Josephine Foster has selected a film which thrums with the same untamed energy you can find in her music.

Made in the wake of his acclaimed war drama Lacombe, Lucien, Louis Malle pulled an abrupt U-turn with Black Moon, a surreal fever dream shot at his house in the Dordogne. Rex Harrison's granddaughter Cathryn is an Alice-like figure exploring a realm of unicorns, talking rats and psychosexual intrigue, against the backdrop of an apocalyptic near-future where men and women are at war. Barmy and beguiling.

The screening will be introduced by Josephine Foster, who you can see performing later on at the Glee Club.

Dir: Louis Malle
France / West Germany 1975, 95 mins
