Derby Day: Babeworld Screening and Q&A

Wednesday 15th May, 2024

The Mockingbird Cinema - Screen 2 | 18:00 - 19:30

Artist collective Babeworld present their 2023 short Derby Day alongside a compilation of YouTube videos, anime clips and gaming references that have inspired them over the years.

Derby Day is an investigation into the art world with a critical eye on intersectionality; defying and reclaiming this space whilst also conjuring a threshold into new potentials. Leaning into the theme of violence as both a tool of the oppressor and of meaningful liberation, Derby Day takes inspiration from 90s horror, anime and the clarity of Super 8mm home movie formats.

This event is presented in partnership with Grand Union and University of Birmingham MA Art History & Curating. There will be a late night opening of Babeworld x utopian_realism; Love is Real and it's Inside of My Computer on Wednesday 15 May to coincide with this screening. Feel free to visit the exhibition before or after the event! For more information about the exhibition, head to Grand Union’s website.
