Crate Conversations Presents: Speaking Back
For this year's festival four brilliant spoken word artists have delved into shorts, animation and archive material in the Flatpack vaults.
Each have picked a film and written a creative response to it, to be performed at the festival on Thursday 16 May.
We teamed up with Crate Poetry, an exciting new Birmingham-based platform for poetry delivered weekly via YouTube, to record a conversation about the process of writing in response to film.
The thoughtful, energising discussion meanders through reflections on the importance of play in creative practice, the relationship between film, spoken word and story, and the role and responsibility of the audience as viewers - and plenty more besides.
A huge thank you to poets Nafeesa Hamid, Zakariye Abdillahi, Jess May Davies and Polarbear for the conversation, and to Paul Stringer and Nina Baille for the film.
