Swipeside (24-26 March)
This year, as part of our eighth film festival, we’ve been working with a team of students at Birmingham City University to curate and deliver a new strand, Swipeside. Focussing on student, emerging, and visually distinctive work (mostly animation), Swipeside takes place at the university’s brand-spanking new building in eastside (next to Millennium Point, and featured above). We'll have a whole host of national and international guests, including Nobuaki Doi and Mirai Mizue (Calf), Priit Pärn, Cyriak, BAFTA-winners Will Anderson & Ainslie Henderson, Chris Randall, and Eimhin McNamara. There'll be workshops, discussions, and screenings taking place over the three days, and most of it is free. The full Swipeside programme is as follows:
Monday 24 March Calf Retrospective + Screen Talk BCU Parkside, Lecture Theatre (Third Floor), £5*, 6:00 – 8:00pm
Tuesday 25 March Mirai Mizue: ‘Wonder of Animation’ Workshop BCU Parkside, Illustration Studio (Fourth Floor), Free (booking essential), 2:00 – 5:00pm
Pärnography: Selected Works and Screen Talk BCU Parkside, The Shell (Ground Floor), £5*, 6:00 - 8:00pm
