Handsworth Songs
This collage essay was pieced together by the Black Audio Film Collective from their own footage, news reports and archive material
Dir: John Akomfrah Cert: 15
This collage essay was pieced together by the Black Audio Film Collective from their own footage, news reports and archive material (including The Colony), in the wake of Handsworth’s 1985 riots. Thirty years on, it has only gained in power and resonance as an analysis of how the mainstream media tackles dissent.
Presented in association with Film 21, a new community cinema for Handsworth. Refreshments included.
